The idea is simple: collect food and do it on a bike. The rules are minimal: be safe and have fun. The cause is an excellent one, and on Saturday, November 16, 2024 cyclists of all ages and abilities will gather to collect food for Harvest Hope and Upstate Food Not Bombs.

Cranksgiving is a combination alley-cat race and scavenger hunt, with participants pedaling throughout the city to visit area stores and collect holiday food items from a secret list. In an alley-cat race, cyclists can choose whatever route they want (streets, bike paths, alleys) to get to where they’re going. The list, or ‘Manifest’ is a collaboration between event organizers and a local charity, comprised of non-perishable food items and basic personal items.

Cyclists complete the ride by returning to the starting point within the time allotment. Bonuses may be given out for solving puzzles and collecting specific food items. Organizers stress there is no experience necessary, all ages and proficiencies on a bike are welcome.

Last year we had a great turnout with over 30 participants and raised over 130lbs to donate towards Harvest Hope and Upstate Food Not Bombs! We are looking forward to seeing everyone this year and having another great turnout!

There is still the beauty and nature of Oscar Scherer Park on mostly hard packed surfaces but there are still some tree roots and a section on the trails and a little bit of the dreaded "sugar sand." You will begin near the Nature Center and travel the length of the main entrance road just about to the entrance before turning onto the Lester Finley trail and South Creek Nature Trail on mostly prepared-surface park trails including crushed shell and paver paths then onto earthen trails for the last 3/4 mile with only a very small sandy area.

The Scrub Jay Scramble 10K is a course on the trails, sugar-sand included, with some ups and downs using recently created pedestrian underpasses and overpasses. Designed by trail runners for trail runners using the parks' features to challenge even experienced trail runners. Check out the detailed description and map of the Scrub Jay Scramble 10K.

Your registration includes custom silver anniversary finisher's medal for all finishers and a post-race featuring hot dogs (veggie dogs on request), bananas and other snacks. *NOTE: Race shirts will be ordered approximately three weeks before race day to have them ready in time. At that time all sizes will be in the online inventory and available only while supplies last. This is an In-Person Run/Jog/Walk - THIS RACE WILL HAPPEN RAIN OR SHINE...in the case of lightning, there may be a delay. If unsafe conditions (for example a serious storm) the race may need to switch to a virtual race.

Strollers and dogs are welcome. 1 water stop halfway through the course. EMS will be on site at the school campus.

Whether you're a rider or a fan, we hope you enjoy the excitement and camaraderie of this incredible event. Over the past two decades, the Tour de Bowness has grown into one of the premier amateur cycling races in Western Canada. What started in 2001 with just the Bowness Criterium has expanded year after year, as Bow Cycle continues to find new ways to bring more people into this amazing sport.

The iconic Criterium course remains largely unchanged, featuring seven tight turns and numerous prime viewing spots throughout downtown Bowness. It may not always be the provincial championship race, but ask any cyclist—this course is their favorite, and it’s a fan favorite, too!

In 2015, we revamped the Hill Climb by moving it to Mackay Road, where the morning start allows riders to avoid the unpredictable evening winds. The format has evolved, and it now features individual time trials that lead to the thrilling 5-up finales, where top racers battle it out. This new format draws bigger crowds every year.

The Road Race, held on the picturesque yet challenging Horse Creek Road north of Cochrane, tests riders with its tough climbs and sharp turns. The infamous "hill" on the return lap is where the competition truly heats up, often deciding who takes home the top placements.

In 2023, we introduced the kids' race—one of the most heartwarming additions to the Tour. From run bikes to future cycling stars, this event brings the community together, united by the joy of seeing children fall in love with riding bikes.

2024 saw the inclusion of para cyclists, further expanding our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the sport. We’re excited to watch this group grow and thrive as an integral part of the Tour de Bowness.

This year, the 2025 edition promises to be the best yet, featuring the Horse Creek Road Race, the Montgomery Hill Climb, and of course, the famous Bowness Criterium. We’ve made some exciting tweaks to enhance your racing experience and can’t wait to see everyone in action!
